Microsoft is working on fully mitigating issues causing Outlook on the web and SharePoint Online users to experience delays or failures when searching.

Tracked under EX1063763 in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, the issues are caused by infrastructure components responsible for processing users’ search requests that perform below acceptable performance thresholds.

The company first acknowledged this Exchange Online incident at 05:21 UTC, with the latest update published at 08:22 saying that a recently deployed fix should provide relief while Redmond’s engineers check if further optimizations are required to fully mitigate the search issues.

“Our review of telemetry indicates that the service has returned to normal performance thresholds and users may be noticing relief. However, we’re validating and deploying a fix to improve performance parameters in the short term while conducting a period of monitoring,” Microsoft said.

“In parallel, we’re continuing to review telemetry data to determine whether additional optimization actions may be required to fully remediate impact.”

Microsoft has yet to share which regions were impacted by these issues, but has tagged it as an incident, usually describing a critical service issue involving noticeable user impact.

Last month, it resolved another incident (EX1035922) caused by a code error that blocked some Exchange Online users from searching using Outlook on the web or the new Outlook client, with affected customers seeing ‘We didn’t find anything, try a different keyword’ errors.

Redmond also mitigated an Outlook on the web outage impacting users worldwide, preventing Outlook on the web users from accessing their Exchange Online mailboxes, causing problems logging into their accounts and accessing the website, and triggering server connection issues.

In July 2023, Microsoft fixed another issue preventing Outlook.com users from searching and triggering 401 exception errors, while one year earlier, it confirmed a bug breaking Outlook search in desktop apps running on Windows 11 systems.

This is a developing story…
